Safety

We want all participants to feel safe when they attend the inperson portion of their training.  Part of this is asking all participants to review the Self-Assessment Form on this page.  Every participant is required to do so prior to attending the class & will recieve this reminder via email.

Virtual Delivery Platform:

We will be using Webex for this course. Please ensure you download this prior to the beginning of the course : Webex - https://www.webex.com/ Download info: https://www.webex.com/downloads.html This platform is best run using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Equipment Requirements:

· Ensure your device (computer, laptop, iPad, cell/smartphone) has both video and audio capabilities. If it doesn’t, you may need to utilize another device for audio or video capability.

· Ensure you test your device prior to the beginning of the course

· Learning over a virtual platform is very different from in-person learning. Here are a few considerations:

o  Join the session 10 minutes prior to the start time to ensure you are participating in 100% of the session.

o Participate in 100% of all modules of the course.

o Be respectful of your classmates by minimizing distractions for yourself and others who can see you by using a quiet space without interruptions/background noise.

You will also need these supplies:

o Pen & paper

o Markers & highlighters

o A doll (think stuffed animal or larger doll (not barbies)) – you will need this to demonstrate holding a baby and changing a baby

o Small blanket or pillow case ( to act as change pad for baby)

o Facecloth (dry)

o Bottle/sippy cup or something to use as a “bottle”

Your course material that will be mailed to you will include:

o The Red Cross Babysitting manual

o Forms and work sheets – that we will complete during the course and some that you will complete on your own and bring to the live classes

o A diaper to demonstrate diapering on your doll

o A schedule for the course

o Vinyl gloves – for the First Aid portion

Course Requirements:

· Participation in 100% of the virtual classroom session and demonstrate the skills required throughout the course.

Parent Requirements:

· Safe supervision of your child is important. It will be mandatory that there is in-person supervision while they take the class provided by someone in your home.

· As learners enter the virtual space, have them update their video feed title to the name they wish to be called during the session. This helps me monitor each of the video feeds during the session and ensure that each learner stays active.

· Fill out the registration form with a backup communication mode in case a learner leaves the screen or turns off the video and doesn’t respond ( I will need a phone number ).

· There will be a few skills that your child will practice, please support them during these times.

· There will also be pre-work & some “homework” between sessions that they will need to complete (total for the program would be about 1-2 hours total). This will be spread out and included in the mailed package.

Completion:

If the student is successful (participates fully, completes all the skills and activities, is respectful to their peers) they will be mailed their Red Cross Babysitting Certificate. Of course this means that they have passed the course but it is still up to their parents to determine when it is appropriate for them to begin babysitting 😊
